Arana Hills doors, made just up the road in Brendale

Arana Hills sits about 12 km from our Brendale factory, roughly an 18 minute run down South Pine Road and Dawson Parade. Our fleet covers North Brisbane and the Pine Rivers corridor, so a measure in Arana Hills slots into a regular local run rather than a special trip. You deal with the manufacturer directly: doors are built at 241 Leitchs Road and fitted by our own installers.

Why Arana Hills chooses custom aluminium glass doors

Sixty years of hillside settling shows in a door before it shows almost anywhere else. Push an old slider in an Arana Hills home and you’ll often feel it: dragging on the track at one end, a gap at the head on the other. You won’t read that in a census table. Our installers keep finding it in older homes on sloping ground, where footings move a little over the decades and the door openings move with them.

Arana Hills has more of those homes than most suburbs. Pine Rivers’ first modern residential estate started here in 1956, marketed by Willmore and Randell as Camden Park. More estates followed to the north-west through the 1960s and 70s, leaving a mix of chamferboard timber houses and later brick homes built on steep hills. At the 2021 Census, 86.9% of occupied dwellings were separate houses and 78.8% were owner-occupied. People hold their homes here for decades. In houses that age, the doors are often decades old too.

A stock door can’t fix a settled opening. Force a standard size into a frame that’s dropped on one side and you’ll get the same binding and draughts back within a couple of years. A settled opening needs carpentry before it needs glass. Every installer we send holds Cert III in Glass and Glazing and Cert III in Carpentry, so the same crew squares up the frame, then fits a door made to that corrected measurement at our 1,700 sqm Brendale factory. Arana Hills is roughly 12 km and about 18 minutes from the factory floor, and our fleet works this corridor on regular runs.

Weather is the other reason fit matters. Queensland Places records severe storms causing widespread damage to Arana Hills houses in 2008. A storm will do what it does. Our job is making sure the door carries the wind-load rating AS 2047 sets for external glazed doors and seals properly at the sill, so wind-driven rain stays outside.

Common door problems we solve in Arana Hills

Water getting in at door sills during storms

Queensland Places records severe storms causing widespread damage to houses in Arana Hills back in 2008. On a sloping block, stormwater runs toward the lower side of the house, and an old sill with tired seals lets wind-driven rain follow it inside. Water at the sill soaks into flooring and framing long before anyone spots it. We check sill fall, drainage and seals during the measure, then build the replacement door at our Brendale factory so the sill sits right and sheds water. Where the sub-frame needs repair first, our carpentry-qualified installers handle that on the same job.

Wind-load compliance on wide door openings

AS 2047, the standard for windows and external glazed doors, includes structural performance under wind loading, and wide sliding or stacking openings must meet the wind rating for the site. Exposed hillside positions can carry tougher ratings than flat, sheltered streets. A door that doesn't suit the site's wind rating can flex, leak or fail when a storm front comes through. Because we manufacture in our own factory, we build each door to the opening and the site rather than hoping a stock unit's rating happens to match.

Safety glass requirements in door panels

AS 1288 requires Grade A safety glass, toughened or laminated, in doors and in glazed panels that could be mistaken for doorways. Doors in older homes may still carry glass fitted under earlier rules. If ordinary glass in a door breaks, it breaks into large, sharp pieces right where people and pets pass through. New door panels from our factory are glazed with the toughened or laminated safety glass the standard calls for, and our glaziers can check what's in your other door panels while on site.

Fitting security screens to new and existing doors

Most glass doors get a security screen sooner or later, and a screen retrofitted by a second contractor to a door they didn't install rarely lines up cleanly with the track and frame. A poorly matched screen can foul the slider, gap at the edges or fail to lock properly. We supply and install security screen doors ourselves, including Prowler Proof and Crimsafe, so the screen is specified alongside the new door rather than bolted on later. Products sold as security screens fall under the AS 5039 series, which sets impact, knife-shear and pull tests.

Our hinged entrance range

Architectural glass doors in Arana Hills

Sliding doors suit the back of the house. For the front, our architectural range covers hinged aluminium entrance doors, entry doors and custom entry panels for homes and commercial properties. Panels come in single, double or multi-panel configurations with your choice of handles, locks, hinges and privacy options. Commercial jobs get commercial-grade hardware and hinges rated for high-traffic use. We build with Breezeway and Vantage systems, and doors can integrate the ComfortEdge system, designed to cut heat transfer through the door and keep indoor temperatures steadier. On a west-facing Arana Hills entry that cops the afternoon sun, that's worth asking about. See the full architectural door range at /glass-doors-brisbane/architectural/.

Why Arana Hills trusts Superior Glass

Superior Glass has been making and installing glass since 1972, and it's still Australian family-owned, with director Nathan Fox hands-on in the day-to-day. We're a manufacturer-installer: doors are built at our 1,700 sqm factory and showroom at 241 Leitchs Road, Brendale, then fitted by our own crews. Those crews hold Cert III in Glass and Glazing and Cert III in Carpentry, which matters when an opening needs carpentry before it takes glass. We're QBCC licensed and insured; in Queensland, the QBCC requires a glass, glazing and aluminium licence for paid glazing work. Most residential door installs take one to two days. Customers tell the same sort of story in reviews: stacker doors and security screens fitted without fuss, older windows replaced promptly, and the site left tidy afterwards.
