Petrie doors, made just up the road in Brendale
In The Mill, a door gets specified before the frame it will hang in exists. On the older streets, where separate houses make up 86.4% of occupied dwellings, the same door has to drop into an opening that has often been shifting for decades. Either way it is cut to the measurements we take at your place. Our factory is about 8 km away, roughly 12 minutes down Gympie Road and Dawson Parade, so a surprise in the reveal on install day gets sorted by the people who built the door.

Why Petrie chooses custom aluminium glass doors
A door job in Petrie splits on one thing: whether the opening already exists. On the established streets it usually does. Separate houses make up 86.4% of occupied dwellings, and many still run their original sliders. With 29.7% of homes rented and 43.4% mortgaged, plenty are rentals between tenants or houses mid-renovation. The old paper mill site is the other case. It is a 460 hectare Priority Development Area built around the UniSC campus, and there the opening is still a rectangle on a plan. Queensland adopted the NCC 2022 energy provisions on 1 May 2024, and that is what separates the two: a new build or major renovation has to reach a 7-star shell rating, with glazing among the most influential factors, while a like-for-like repair or same-size replacement generally sits outside.
Where the opening already exists, what that opening will take decides the answer. A slider that drags off the family room, a hinged back door that has dropped, a two-panel slider a renovation wants opened right up: keep the size and it stays a configuration choice, sliding, stacking, frameless, centre-opening, internal, or a custom build when nothing standard suits the reveal. Go wider and it becomes an engineering one, because AS 2047 sets the wind-load rating an external glazed door has to meet for the site.
New builds in The Mill work the other way round. The door carries a performance number: its glass and frame feed straight into the shell rating, so the panel gets chosen against the provisions at quote stage rather than swapped out later. That is also when a wide stacking door onto a compact new-build courtyard gets its wind rating confirmed and Grade A safety glass under AS 1288 is specced into it.
Both tracks come off the same bench. Doors are made to measure at our 1,700 sqm factory in Brendale. Our installers hold Cert III in Glass and Glazing alongside Cert III in Carpentry, which earns its keep on a settled Petrie opening that needs correcting before any glass goes in, and most residential installs finish in one to two days. Tell us the address and the job and we’ll tell you which track you’re on before anything is fabricated.
Aluminium glass doors we make for Petrie
The aluminium range covers sliding doors, stacking doors, frameless glass doors and custom builds for homes and commercial premises. Centre-opening sliders and glass internal doors are options too, and the wider catalogue adds bi-fold and pivot-hinge doors if the opening calls for them.
Common door problems we solve in Petrie
Worn rollers and sticking tracks on older sliding doors
Separate houses make up 86.4% of Petrie's occupied dwellings, and many still run their original sliders. Years of grit and door weight wear the rollers flat and score the track. A dragging door gets forced, and forcing it wrecks the lock, the frame and eventually the glass seat. We do repairs as well as full replacements. If the frame is sound we get it rolling again; if it's past saving, the new door is made to your opening and, kept at the same size, generally stays clear of the 7-star provisions.
Converting a standard sliding door to a stacker for alfresco flow
Renovations on established Petrie blocks often open the back of the house to a deck, and a two-panel slider only ever clears about half the opening. A wider span changes the engineering, because AS 2047 sets wind-load ratings that external glazed doors must meet for the site. We fabricate stacking doors to the exact opening. The configuration is specced against the wind rating the standard requires before anything gets cut.
Hinged aluminium entrance door replacement
Front entries on older Petrie homes are often original units that have dropped on their hinges. With most of the suburb either rented or still mortgaged, that work often gets done around a sale or a change of tenant. An entry door is opened and closed many times a day, so worn hinges or a lock that no longer lines up soon become obvious. Our architectural range covers hinged aluminium entrance doors and custom entry panels, in single, double or multi-panel configurations with a choice of hardware. AS 1288 requires Grade A safety glass in doors, and the panel is specced to suit.
Out-of-square older openings needing custom fabrication
Established houses settle. After a few decades the opening is rarely square; framing moves, slabs sink at a corner and reveals twist. A stock-size door forced into a moved opening binds from day one and never seals. Our installers hold Cert III in Carpentry alongside Cert III in Glass and Glazing, so the frame gets corrected first. The door itself is fabricated to the true measurements at Brendale.

Our hinged entrance range
Architectural glass doors in Petrie
Front entries in Petrie split the same two ways. In The Mill the entrance is picked from scratch, before the house is finished. On the established streets, where the housing stock is mostly detached houses, it's a replacement job: an existing entry that has dropped on its hinges, often sorted ahead of a sale or a new tenant. Our architectural range covers both, with hinged aluminium entrance doors, entry doors and custom entry panels for homes and commercial premises. Panels come in single, double or multi-panel configurations with a choice of handles, locks, hinges and privacy options. Commercial entries get commercial-grade hardware and hinges rated for high-traffic use. If heat through the entry is the concern, the range can integrate with the ComfortEdge system, which is designed to reduce heat transfer through door and window systems and steady indoor temperatures. Our door and window installations use Breezeway and Vantage systems. The full line-up of configurations and hardware sits on our architectural door range page.
Why Petrie trusts Superior Glass
Superior Glass has been manufacturing and installing glass since 1972 and is still Australian family-owned, with director Nathan Fox hands-on in daily operations. We make what we fit. Doors are built at our 1,700 sqm factory and showroom at 241 Leitchs Road, Brendale, then installed by our own crews. Those installers hold Cert III in Glass and Glazing and Cert III in Carpentry. We're QBCC licensed and insured; in Queensland, the QBCC requires a glass, glazing and aluminium licence for paid glazing work. A typical residential door install runs one to two days. Our service fleet covers North Brisbane and the Pine Rivers and Moreton Bay corridor, and Petrie jobs are scheduled inside those regular local runs. And if the new door needs a security screen over it, we supply and fit those too, so one company handles the whole opening.

Aluminium Glass Doors in Petrie: your questions answered
Generally not, if it's a like-for-like swap. Queensland adopted the NCC 2022 provisions on 1 May 2024, and the 7-star requirement applies to new builds and major renovations; a same-size replacement or repair generally sits outside it. A new home or major reno in The Mill is a different story, since glazing is among the most influential factors in the rating. Tell us the job and we'll tell you which side it falls on.
Our factory and showroom sit at 241 Leitchs Road, Brendale, roughly 8 km from Petrie, about a 12 minute drive. Every door is made to measure there. If a frame needs adjusting on install day, the bench that built it is up the road, which helps keep a typical residential install at one to two days.
We do repairs as well as full replacements. If the frame and track are sound, new rollers and a track service can bring an older door back. Once the track is worn through or the frame itself has failed, replacement is usually the better spend, and we make the new door to the exact opening.
Often, yes. Stacking doors are part of our standard aluminium range, and we build them to the opening. Widening the opening changes the structure, and AS 2047 sets the wind-load rating external glazed doors must meet for the site. Our installers hold carpentry as well as glazing trade certificates, which matters when the widened opening needs framing work before the door goes in.
Yes. We supply and install security screen doors alongside new glass doors, so the screen is measured and fitted by the same crew as the door. Products sold as security screens are governed by the AS 5039 series, which sets impact and pull tests. We fit Prowler Proof and Crimsafe screens; ask about current options for your door when you book.
AS 1288, the standard covering glass in buildings, requires Grade A safety glass, either toughened or laminated, in doors and in glazed panels that could be mistaken for a doorway. That applies to an established Petrie house and to a new build in The Mill alike. We spec the panel to suit the opening and the application when we measure.
