Dakabin doors, made just up the road in Brendale

Our factory and showroom sit at 241 Leitchs Road, Brendale, about 12 km from Dakabin, roughly a 16 minute run through Lawnton, Petrie and Kallangur. Dakabin jobs slot into our regular North Brisbane service runs, so a measure or an install here isn't waiting on an out-of-area crew. The door itself is made in that same Brendale factory, then fitted by our own installers.

Why Dakabin chooses custom aluminium glass doors

More than a third of Dakabin’s occupied homes are townhouses. The 2021 Census counts 36.6% of dwellings as semi-detached or row housing, against 57.7% separate houses. That’s a rare mix for an outer suburb, and it changes what an aluminium door has to do. On a compact townhouse block, the back door is usually the main light source for the whole living area. Slim aluminium frames keep the glass area big, and a centre-opening slider or stacker opens more of the wall without swinging into tight floor space.

The new estates are the second part of the picture. Land listings show building running through estates such as Flametree, Thrive and the Dakabin Crossing townhouse development. Any new Queensland home approved from 1 May 2024 has to reach a 7-star NatHERS rating under NCC 2022, and glazing is one of the biggest factors in that rating. If you’re building or doing a major renovation in one of these estates, the door glazing belongs in the energy assessment from the start, and we’ll spec it that way. A like-for-like replacement on an existing home doesn’t trigger the rule, so a repair job stays a repair job.

Then there’s older Dakabin. Suburb profiles describe an area still moving from semi-rural acreage to medium density, with older properties remaining around Alma Road and Old Gympie Road. Doors on those homes can be decades old, with corroded frames and rollers worn well past adjustment. Standard stock sizes rarely fit them. Ours don’t need to, because every door is made to measure in Brendale.

One more number matters: 61.4% of Dakabin’s occupied dwellings are rented. In a suburb with that tenure mix, door work is typically commissioned by owners, landlords and property managers rather than the people living in the home. If that’s you, a 1-2 day install means the job is done between one inspection and the next, without dragging on for a tenant.

Common door problems we solve in Dakabin

Corroded old door frames and hardware

Doors on Dakabin's older acreage properties, the pockets suburb profiles describe around Alma Road and Old Gympie Road, have often been in the weather for decades. The frame pits and corrodes, and the hinges seize a little more each year. A corroded door leaks air and water, drags on its track and can stop locking properly, which is a security problem as much as a comfort one. We replace them with made-to-measure aluminium doors from our Brendale factory, sized to the existing opening. Aluminium frames are designed to resist rust and corrosion, so the replacement doesn't repeat the failure.

Bi-fold and servery openings for entertaining areas

Land listings show building still running through Dakabin's new estates, and new-home plans commonly include alfresco areas that a standard door opening doesn't connect well to the living space inside. Wide glazed openings must meet the wind-load requirements AS 2047 sets for external glazed doors on the specific site. We manufacture bi-fold doors to measure and install them with crews holding Cert III in both glazing and carpentry, which covers the structural side of opening up a wall.

Worn rollers and sticking tracks on older sliding doors

Sliding doors carry their full weight on small rollers. After years of grit and daily use, rollers flatten and tracks wear, and the door starts to drag. Forcing a heavy sticking door stresses the glass and the frame, and in a rental it's the kind of fault that turns into a tenant complaint. We repair and replace glass doors as part of our standard service range. If the track and frame are too far gone, we make a full replacement to measure, and most installs are done in 1-2 days.

Converting a standard sliding door to a stacker for alfresco flow

A two-panel slider only ever opens half its width. On townhouse blocks, which make up 36.6% of Dakabin's occupied dwellings, that half-opening is often the home's main link to outdoor space. The size of the clear opening decides how usable a small courtyard or alfresco area actually is. We build stacking doors to measure so multiple panels slide and stack within your existing structural opening. Where the opening is being widened, AS 2047 wind-load requirements apply and we spec the door to suit.

Our hinged entrance range

Architectural glass doors in Dakabin

If you want a hinged entrance door rather than a slider, our architectural range covers hinged aluminium entrance doors, entry doors and custom entry panels for homes and commercial buildings. Panels come in single, double or multi-panel configurations, with your pick of handles, locks, hinges and privacy options. We build these on Breezeway and Vantage systems, and they can integrate ComfortEdge, a system designed to cut heat transfer through the door and keep indoor temperatures steadier. That's worth weighing up on a 7-star new build in one of Dakabin's estates. For shopfronts and offices, commercial architectural doors get commercial-grade hardware and hinges rated for high-traffic use. See our full architectural door range for the details.

Why Dakabin trusts Superior Glass

Superior Glass Brisbane has been making and fitting glass doors since 1972. We're Australian family-owned, and director Nathan Fox still works in the business day to day. Every door we sell in Dakabin is made to measure at our 1,700 sqm factory and showroom at 241 Leitchs Road, Brendale, then installed by our own crews. Our installers hold Cert III in Glass and Glazing and Cert III in Carpentry, which matters when a door opening on an older home needs structural work as well as glazing. The business is QBCC licensed and insured. In Queensland, paid glazing work legally requires a QBCC glass, glazing and aluminium licence. Most residential door installs take 1-2 days. And because we also supply and fit security screen doors, including Prowler Proof and Crimsafe products, a screen can be specified and fitted with your new glass door instead of chasing a second contractor later.
